However, artistic differences with other members of the band led to my leaving to pursue a career of my own, which is why the above photograph never made it onto the cover of The Joshua Tree.
Well, seriously, folks, I do not have all that much to tell. As you can undoubtedly see, two of my hobbies are photography and travel. In addition to the pages already here, I hope in the future to include other destinations, as time and money permit. Also, now that I have image processing software, I may do a few more "artistic" shots, as opposed to simply taking travel photos.
In addition to pursuing travel and photography, I play the bagpipes, and I study Kung Fu, the Chinese language, Eastern history and culture in general, and Buddhism. I also grow roses and raise amphibians and ornamental goldfish -- hobbies that are as nearly as time-consuming as netsurfing -- and I drink way too much coffee.
I was born in 1967, and I am originally from Annapolis, Maryland, on the Chesapeake Bay. I spent a lot of time on the water in my youth, but now I lead a largely land-locked existence, though I can still claim to be immune from sea-sickness. I was educated at the College of William and Mary, in Williamsburg, Virginia, though I also spent some time at the Beijing Language Institute (which is not on the web, so far as I know) and Middlebury College in Vermont. This actually makes me a bit of a black sheep, because my grandfather, father, and younger brother all went to the University of Michigan. However, since my alma mater "Bill & Maude" isn't exactly a football power and I was raised on Wolverine football anyway, we don't have any family conflicts on Saturdays.
When I am not traveling (most of the time, actually), I live somewhere in Northern Virginia (for now -- we're planning to move before long) with my quasi-lobbyist wife Gale, living and dying over the fortunes of the Orioles, Wizards, and Redskins, listening to the greatest rock band ever (Jethro Tull), and trying to figure out how to make Windows95 work (I get by with a little help from my friends). I also pass the time surfing the Net and dreaming of warm nights under a tropical moon....
Space limitations make it impossible for me to upload more than a small fraction of my photography. However, as time and disk space permit, I will continue to expand this page. I have been to many places that I have not written about here, and I certainly plan to travel more in the future, so there is plenty that I can add to this site. Please stay tuned!
As I said on an earlier page, I welcome any comments, advice, hints on where to find cool web sites, and alerts about any broken links on my page, so if you want to, send e-mail!
One last matter: I almost hate to include this, but since so many people have asked, I think I had better. No, I wasn't really a member of U2. I just thought the picture above looked like something that might appear on the cover of one of their albums. Here is a more recent photo of my wife and me.
